Costa is one of the largest coffee chains in the UK, with over 3,800 stores In over 30 countries. In the UK, they sell over 2 billion disposable paper cups annually and most of them end up in landfills unrecycled. 2 billion cups could wrap around the earth 7 times, and if we could reduce this amount of paper cups in circulation we could significantly reduce CO2 emissions, one of the greatest solutions to tackle the effects of climate change is tree planting, trees absorb CO2 removing it from the air and storing it while releasing oxygen.
The proposed solution was for Costa Coffee to release plantable cups, that won‘t only reduce waste but it will also benefit the environment, and since the cups grow into trees, it will help to reduce climate crisis.
