  SILENCE HURTS

Domestic violence is a very serious phenomenon that shouldn‘t remain silent. Through this campaign I want to highlight the nature and scale of the issue amongst young women and men, to generate discussion in communities and on social media. I want to increase awareness about abuse, and provide support and comfort to the abuse victims, to make them speak up and get the help they deserve and need. Domestic violence is a very serious phenomenon that shouldn‘t remain silent.

Video

The idea for the opening shot of the video was for the viewer to see 3 abused individuals with their mouths covered, which symbolise the abuse and harm from a family member or the other partner in a relationship. The tape covering their mouths symbolise the victims being too scared to speak up about it to the public. The final shot is followed by 3 sequential shots where the individuals tear off the tape, to symbolise their willingness and want to speak up, and reach out for help.

Music

I decided to use Alice Booman‘s song called "Waiting". Especially this part of the lyrics: “I want you more than I need you. I need you so bad. Are you coming back? Are you coming back? I'm waiting. Haven't had a dream in a long time. Haven't been able to sleep“ Because the lyrics was fitting to what I had in mind for the video itself, and for the composure of the different shots of the 3 individuals. Further, the mood and the tone of the song itself is dramatic and sad, which further emphasised the seriousness and graveness of the campaign against abuse. “I want you more than I need you” = the victims are afraid of speaking up and asking for help, but they know deep down that it is okay, and it is the right thing to reach out and ask for help.
